Air Methods Corporation, a Delaware corporation, was established in Colorado in 1982. The Company is a provider of air medical emergency transport services and systems throughout the United States of America. It also designs, manufactures, and installs medical aircraft interiors and other aerospace and medical transport products for domestic and international customers. Effective September 1, 2012, the company combined two of their operating segments, Community-Based Services (CBS) and Hospital-Based Services (HBS), into a single operating segment reporting to the President of Air Medical Services. As of December 31, 2012, Air Medical Services (AMS) Division provided air medical transportation services in 42 states to the general population as an independent service (also called community-based services) and to hospitals or other institutions under exclusive operating agreements (also called hospital-based services). Services include aircraft operation and maintenance, medical care, dispatch and communications, and medical billing and collection. CBS aircrafts are typically based at fire stations, airports, or hospital locations. It provides air medical transportation services to hospitals. Services include aircraft operation and maintenance. The Company's United Rotorcraft Division designs, manufactures, and certifies modular medical interiors, multi-mission interiors, and other aerospace and medical transport products. These interiors and other products range from basic life support to intensive care suites to advanced search and rescue systems. The Company is subject to the Federal Aviation Act of 1958, as amended. All of its flight and maintenance operations-including equipment, ground facilities, dispatch, communications, flight training personnel and other matters affecting air safety-are regulated and actively supervised by the U.S. Department of Transportation through the FAA.
