Content discovery solutions include interactive program guides ("IPGs"), search and recommendations, cloud data services and its database of descriptive information about television, movie, music, books, and game content. Advertising solutions include the Rovi Advertising Network and the Rovi Advertising Service, delivering advertising to IPGs, devices connected to the Internet, interactive applications and advertising on consumer websites. Video display and delivery solutions include video compression-decompression technology ("codecs") and content protection technologies and services. The Company sells its products through service providers, Consumer Electronics manufacturers, and others. It offer packages to advertisers to provide them nationwide or targeted advertising on a guide for a period of time. Service providers generally pay a monthly per subscriber fee. Service providers in the online space generally pay a fee based on unique users. Cable and satellite television system operators pay a one-time license fee and/or transaction-based royalty payments. The Company currently offers multiple IPGs to the CE industry, including those marketed under the G-GUIDE brand in Japan and the TotalGuide brand in Europe and North America. Its IPGs generally deliver continuously updated multi-day program listings to users, regardless of whether they receive their television signal via cable or over-the-air broadcast. The Company sells directly to CE manufacturers as well as semiconductor companies that supply the CE manufacturers. It offers music, television, movie, book, and video game metadata. In addition, the Company catalogs information on celebrities, awards, sports, and other data necessary to provide a robust set of metadata. It provides resources for all types of media and businesses in print, on-screen and online formats-as well as through interactive and electronic program guides. Additionally, the data covers multiple geographies including the US, Latin America, major Western European countries, Japan and Korea. The Company licenses a number of data and service offerings, including schedules, listings, TV supplements, and Web services. It sells directly to Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and independent studios. Content owners utilize the Company's solutions to secure their content and thus ensure that the end customer pays them for the use of their content. Studios generally pay an annual license fee to use Company's ACP technology. Rovi's content security technology customers include the following companies: Buena Vista Home Video, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and others. The Company has technical support and certification operations to support its entertainment, consumer electronics and system operator products.
