Caterpillar Inc. was originally organized as Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1925 in the State of California. The Company was reorganized as Caterpillar Inc. in 1986 in the State of Delaware The Company is a manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. It also provides financial services through Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation, Caterpillar Remanufacturing Services and Progress Rail Services Corporation. The business is organized into two areas namely: Machinery and Power Systems and Financial Products. The Machinery and Power Systems is further categorized into three segments namely: Construction Industries, Resource Industries, and Power Systems. Construction segment is primarily responsible for supporting customers using machinery in infrastructure and building construction applications. Resource segment supports customers using machinery in mining and quarrying applications. Power system segment supports customers using reciprocating engines, turbines and related parts across industries serving electric power, industrial, petroleum and marine applications as well as rail-related businesses. The financial products provide financing solutions to customers and dealers for the purchase and lease of its equipments, as well as some financing for the Company's sales to dealers. Its products are sold primarily under the brands Caterpillar, CAT, design versions of CAT and Caterpillar, Electro-Motive, FG Wilson, MaK, MWM, Olympian, Perkins, Progress Rail, SEM and Solar Turbines.
