    William George, Ph.D., age 68, has served as a director of Power Integrations since March 2009. Dr. George is a veteran of the semiconductor industry and currently serves as a member of the board of directors of two other publicly traded companies: Silicon Image, Inc., a designer and developer of mixed-signal integrated circuits; and Ramtron International Corporation, a leading supplier of integrated circuits enabled by ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM). He also served on the board of directors of Metron Technologies, N.V., a global supplier of semiconductor equipment and materials, prior to its acquisition in December 2004. From 1999 until June 2007, Dr. George served as an executive vice president of ON Semiconductor, a supplier of performance power solutions, where he was responsible for manufacturing, supply chain, planning, quality and technology development. From 2007 through his retirement in 2008 he directed the startup of ON Semiconductor's foundry services business. From 1991 to 1994, Dr. George was assigned by Motorola to Sematech Consortium, an alliance of leading American semiconductor companies formed in 1987 to restore American competitiveness in semiconductor manufacturing. At Sematech he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for all operations, business development, marketing, member liaison, and strategic planning. From 1968 until 1999, Dr. George was employed by Motorola, Inc., and served as Corporate Vice President and Director of Manufacturing for Motorola's Semiconductor Components Group from June 1997 until July 1999, where he was responsible for manufacturing operations, quality, and technology development. Dr. George is a member of the Sandia National Laboratories Science Advisory Board. He received a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Purdue University.

    Power Integrations, Inc. was incorporated in California on March 25, 1988 and reincorporated in Delaware in December 1997. The Company designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary, high-voltage, analog integrated circuits for use mainly in AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion in the consumer, communications, computer and industrial electronics markets. It currently offers IC products that could be used in AC-DC power supplies with output wattages ranging from less than one watt up to approximately 500 watts; it also offers products designed for certain high-voltage DC-DC applications such as power-over-Ethernet. The Company's ICs could be used in virtually any power-supply application within its addressable power range; the vast majority is used in power supplies intended for the communications, consumer, computer and industrial end markets. The company's products include: TOPSwitch, TinySwitch, LinkSwitch, Hiper and DPA-Switch. To manufacture its wafers, the Company contracts with three foundries: OKI Electric Industry, or OKI; Seiko Epson Corporation, or Epson and XFAB Dresden GmbH & Co KG, or XFAB. These contractors manufacture its wafers at foundries located in Japan and Germany. The Company's products are assembled and packaged by independent subcontractors in China, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. It sells its products to original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, and merchant power supply manufacturers through a direct sales staff and through a worldwide network of independent sales representatives and distributors. Competing alternatives to its high-voltage ICs include monolithic and hybrid products from companies such as Fairchild Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, Infineon, ON Semiconductor and Sanken Electric Company, as well as PWM controller chips paired with discrete high-voltage bipolar transistors and MOSFETs, which are produced by a number of vendors. The Company's trademarks are TOPSwitch, TinySwitch, LinkSwitch, DPA-Switch, EcoSmart, Hiper, Hiper-PLC and PI Expert. As of December 31, 2011, it held 534 U.S. patents and had received foreign patent protection on these patents resulting in 390 foreign patents. The U.S. patents have expiration dates ranging from 2013 to 2030. The company also holds trademarks in the U.S. and various other geographies including Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, Europe and Japan.
