Mr. Buffett, age 79, has been Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (a diversified holding company) for more than 39 years. He was elected a Director of the Company in May 1996. Mr. Buffett is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board and serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee and as lead Director of the Board. Mr. Buffett also served as a Director of the Company between 1974 and 1986. On January 20, 2011, the Company announced that lead Director Warren E. Buffett will not stand for re-election at the Company's 2011 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mr. Buffett will continue to serve until the expiration of his current term on May 12, 2011.

Washington Post Company was incorporated in Delaware. It is an education and media company. Kaplan, Inc., a subsidiary of the Company, provides a range of educational services for children, students and professionals, both domestically and outside the United States. Kaplan's businesses comprise four categories: Higher Education, Test Preparation, Kaplan International and Kaplan Ventures. The Company's media operations consist of the ownership and operation of cable television systems, newspaper publishing, television broadcasting and magazine publishing. Cable ONE provides cable services that include basic video, digital video, and cable modem and telephone service in the Midwestern, western and southern states of the United States. Washington Post Media publishes The Washington Post, which is a circulated morning daily and Sunday newspaper, mainly distributed by home delivery in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area including portions of Maryland and northern Virginia. Washington Post Media also produces washingtonpost.com, an Internet site that features news and information products as well as the full editorial content of The Washington Post. Through the Company's other newspaper publishing businesses, the Company also publishes other weekly publications and tabloids distributed nationally and within the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and produces other websites and online magazines. The Company owns six VHF television stations located in Houston, TX; Detroit, MI; Miami, FL; Orlando, FL; San Antonio, TX; and Jacksonville, FL. Other than its Jacksonville station, WJXT, the Company's television stations are affiliated with one of the major national networks. Newsweek, Inc. publishes Newsweek, a weekly newsmagazine published both domestically and internationally. The magazine publishing division also includes newsweek.com. CourseAdvisor, Inc., an online lead generation provider headquartered in Wakefield, MA, operates as an independent subsidiary of the Company. Kaplan's businesses operate in fragmented and competitive markets. Its Higher Education Division competes with both facilities-based and other distance-learning providers of similar educational services, including not-for-profit colleges and universities and for-profit businesses. In addition to competing with over-the-air reception, cable television systems face competition from various other forms of video program delivery systems, including DBS services, telephone companies and the Internet. The Company's cable, Internet and voice operations are subject to various requirements imposed by local, state and federal governmental authorities.
